Four
generations of orchardists in the Central Otago region dating
back to the late 1800s, the Jackson family has a solid background
of knowledge and experience in producing some of the best
stone and pip fruits in New Zealand.
Managing
owners of Jackson Orchards are Kevin Jackson, son Mark and
daughter Kristin. Kevin bought the historic 100-acre property
near Cromwell on State Highway 6 in 1989 after their Cromwell
Gorge-based orchard was submerged under metres of water as
part of the huge Clyde Dam hydro-electric project.

The
first settler in the district, Jackson Barry, who became the
first mayor of Cromwell, built the orchard's original homestead
in 1863. The house is still standing and having undergone
a few alterations is home to one of the Jackson family members,
including a younger generation already being groomed for a
life filled with 'seasons of mellow fruitfulness'.
